“Set a guard over my mouth, LORD; keep watch over the door of my lips. Do not let my heart be drawn to what is evil so that I take part in wicked deeds along with those who are evildoers; do not let me eat their delicacies.” Psalm 141: 3-4 (See also James 3)

Father, the world tries so hard to pull us into it and its evil ways. It tempts us with deceiving “beauty” that is rotten on the inside. You also tell us how the tongue may be small, but it can do so much harm and yet also so much good. I know I often need a guard over my mouth so that words that could harm do not flow out of it.

Lord, may only words that honor You and build up others come forth from my lips. Let my heart, Lord, search only for You. May Your word be heard in my ears over all other words in this world. Let all that I do give You glory.

In Jesus Name

Today I will think before I speak and remember that the tongue can both harm and help. I will use my words to build up rather than tear down.
