“The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside still waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for You are with me. Your rod and Your staff they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely Your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” Psalm 23:1-6
How could I ever do this Psalm justice?
Father, this Psalm encompasses so much of who You are, God. You are our shepherd who provides for us. You are the One who leads us to rest. You guide us on the right paths, protect us always, and prepare a table before us. Your abundant love causes our cup to overflow. With You beside us we never need live in fear. With You we are never in need; for You provide.
Lord, oh, what joy there is when we stop trying to find “life” in this world and instead seek it in You. May I always hold fast to; “The Lord is my shepherd; I lack nothing.” May I stop trying to find life anywhere but in You. Praise You Father!
In Jesus Name
Lord, I pray that those reading this Psalm read it afresh. That they see it with new eyes and open hearts. That they find You in it. That they write it on their hearts so that they can carry it with them wherever they may go.
In the precious name of Jesus, I pray.
Today I will remember how this Psalm is so much more than one that is, often, spoken at funerals. This Psalm is a guiding light for our lives. It so richly shows who God is and His love for us. So, too, it leads us to Jesus who is our good shepherd.
